NewJeans, Ban Heesoo, New Wave [New World of Art Bachelor]

The Age of Conceptualizing Everything in the World
Make abstract things into pieces.
Conceptualizing it as Ban Heesoo, a fan club of NewJeans.
the inflection point of the traditional visual arts world

Until Steve Jobs launched the iPhone in 2007, the mobile phone market was engaged in a fight over "who is tougher and has more functions." The iPhone has quickly changed this boring battle to the era of PC in the hand.

As I feel the popularity of a girl group recently, I often think of the appearance of the iPhone in 2007. This is because the girl group changed the flow of the music market, which was overflowing with similar melodies, perhaps because it copied digital music continuously. A quick reader may have guessed already. The girl group I'm going to talk about is New Jin's.

This girl group is unique. It seems to be following the trend, but it also gives off a no-stealer image. I may not be the only one who feels like "BLACKPINK combined IU and SES" when looking at NewJeans.

If you listen to Ditto among the music released by Newgins, it is easy to see that the emotions they show contain values from the early to mid-2000s. At the same time, it is interesting to put in strategies suitable for the current era.

One of the best examples of this is the naming of the YouTube channel operator as "Ban Hee-soo." Ban Hee-soo is a Korean name for NewJeans official fan club, Bunnies. In a broader interpretation, it can be seen that the entire fan club was conceptualized as a virtual figure called "Ban Hee-soo."

The reason why I suddenly brought up the story of a girl group called NewJeans is to explain the trends that the visual art world needs to know. Starting with the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more people are interested in different art forms. At the heart of it is the conceptualization of non-materials.

Just as NewJeans conceptualized YouTube operators, the era of "conceptualizing" everything that unfolds in the world has opened. Everything they say here includes girl groups like NFT, Digital Files, YouTube, and even NewJeans.

Conceptualizing non-materials means eventually turning abstract things into works. In other words, NFT, digital files, YouTube, and New Jin's "non-material (content)" can also become works.

Paradoxically, this also suggests that the stereotype of a "writer" is disappearing only when you hold a brush and leave a work on the canvas. Conservative people in the visual arts community may be surprised or angry, but this is a stark reality.

In fact, NFT, conceptualized by something, is now recognized as a work, and it has entered an era of controversy over whether or not artificial intelligence (AI) conceptualized paintings are works.

ChatGPT has become a megatrend. Someday, inspired by ChatGPT, AI's paintings will appear on the market. They are likely to create art by conceptualizing countless non-materials.

Whether or not to see this as a work is not a matter to be discussed in the visual arts world. Trend-sensitive consumers are already recognizing NewJeans dance as "art" and evaluating its value by looking at AI's paintings.

In this context, an inflection point in the visual art world may be created in Korea. This is because the IT environment is so well equipped, and many people have an artistic temperament. Another strength is that K-pop stars like New Jin's appear when they are forgettable. I wonder how the visual art world of tradition, an era that conceptualizes everything, will respond.
