Minji of NewJeans, where every day is a record, landed at Chanel World

Q. It's your first time shooting a solo cover for a magazine. Everything in the studio is preparing for Minji.

A. I was worried because this was my first time filming alone without the members. Yesterday, the members cheered on me to have fun filming. When I came to the set, there were a lot of cute props, so I had a lot of fun. Especially, I remember the boat model on the bed. It was really small and cute.


Q. NewJeans' first photoshoot with Elle and Chanel Beauty. That record is in episode 1 of 'Newzip', a YouTube content by NewJeans.

A. It's amazing that various sides of me are left in videos and pictures. If you take it out after a long time, all of these will be happier memories. I made cookies with the members through my own content, 'Jeans Zine', and it was my first time doing activities other than music programs. Looking at the video now, all the members were exited.


Q. It's one of the  points where I'm surprised when I watch NewJeans videos. The viewers can also feel that the members are exited and happy. The shooting itself would have been hard, including the music video set of "Ditto."

A. I think it's because everyone really enjoys it. Of course it's fun to do what you want to do. The same goes for "Ditto" music video. I imagined that it would have been nice if we all went to school together because we wore the same school uniform and we were in the same space, so it felt like it came true. Everyone is making fun of me because we was in the same grade.

From MAMA in late November to Golden Disc Awards in January, you performed at various awards ceremonies and year-end special stage in just half a year.

A. It was one of the promotions that I personally looked forward to even before our debut. There were so many big stages, and the members' teamwork improved during the preparation process. Of course, my skills. Especially, the Golden Disc Awards performance with a cheerleading concept was memorable. Since the beginning of the letter, we were able to enjoy it with a more comfortable mind. It's amazing that you can see the performances of your favorite seniors and fellow artists in person. Since each team has different preferences and colors, we find charms that we don't have.

Q. What do you feel the most when you hear from the people who saw the performance of NewJeans?

A. The response that they were happy while watching the performance. We actually enjoy the stage, but I'm proud that the energy was delivered. I think we did a good job.

Q. You challenged yourself to be the MC for the first time as a special MC for "Music Bank". How does Minji prepare for a new job?

A. I think I'm a hard worker. When I was the special MC, I tried to memorize the script as much as possible. I thought I had to memorize the flow so that I wouldn't panic in the middle. While preparing for today's shoot, I looked for various pictures.

Q. I thought that NewJeans members were stronger and more energetic than I thought when I saw all of you on "Idol Star Dream Team." Minji has good athletic ability. Except for one event, everyone got grade 1.

A. I think I'm good at sports. I hid it because I thought it wouldn't be fun if I was confident from the beginning (laughs). We talk a lot about how we take care of our physical strength and condition. We try to take good care of each other.

Q. It's also an unexpected move to appear on popular entertainment programs or YouTube channels.

A. First of all, it's fun to be with the members! I don't think it's burdensome to film an entertainment program in a fun atmosphere. Before I go to the set, I often say, "I'm going to talk about this," and then I just laugh to my heart's content (laughs).

Q. I remember being surprised last summer when the "Attention" music video was surprised by my YouTube recommendation list without any teaser or notice. The first single, "OMG," is well received overseas. both songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

A. It's still unbelievable. When I think about these records, I feel grateful to many people first. It's a number that makes your worries about the future feel good.

A. 'Attention’ ‘Hype Boy’ ‘Cookie’. I remember performing a total of three songs as debut songs. All three songs are title songs, but since each song has such a different feeling, I wondered if these charms would be understood well. It received so much attention and love that it felt meaningless!

Q. Growing up is of course required for artists. What does growth mean to Minji? How do you want to spend your time?

A. I often think about what more I should learn to grow into a good person. Where to learn. Therefore, I naturally like to talk to my parents or read books when I have time. Of course, I often do other hobbies such as playing games!

Q. How is it different from what you get from books or writings from other media?

A. I'm into reading books these days. If I have a book I want to read, I go to the bookstore and read a few books before buying it. People around me recommend this book reader a lot, but I want to keep the book in real life, and when I read it, I feel like I'm reading a book when it's actually printed, so I always buy it myself.

A. I'm pretty lucky. A lucky opportunity came quickly. And I think I knew when this opportunity came. I must catch it.

Q. Like the lyrics of "I'm not going to be the one to get hurt," is Minji afraid of getting hurt? Or do you believe that you grow through your wounds?

A. I'm not afraid of getting hurt. You may grow up through that experience, but I don't think I'll choose the path of getting hurt on purpose to grow! I try not to hurt others.

Q. I think I cherish my childhood. What comes to mind when you think about what you forgot about now and what you didn't know was precious back then?.

A. In the past, I thought it was natural to have a family meal together, but as I've been busy lately, I feel that every opportunity is precious. During the last Lunar New Year holiday, I was able to spend time with my family for the first time in a long time and talk a lot. I made simple dishes such as gimbap and fried tofu rice balls with my older brother and younger brother.

A. As a team member, I always have a sense of responsibility. Each and every one of them has become a team. I talk a lot with my friends who are having a friendship to keep it. I always feel considerate and caring for each other's conversations, so I think the more conversations we have, the deeper our friendship becomes. Friendship is not a difficult relationship for me yet. I'm trying to communicate with my close friends like using Ponting and fan signing events. It's always fun to talk to friends with similar interests!
